Breakthrough
Breakthrough barriers to explore difference and connection together. The largest exhibit in FMSM will contain a collection of unexpected environments designed for exploration. Modeled after the Lindenwood section of the Red River, the meandering passage tracks water, people, wildlife, and stories through ecological and geographical borders. The river’s story is our story.
An immersive journey through multisensory interactive spaces, Breakthrough includes multiple major subzones, including A River Runs North and I See You.
Into the Storm
Into The Storm sweeps visitors away into tales of wind, hail, and snow. In this iconic FMSM experience, visitors can hurtle through a multi-sensory slide, ascend a winding exhibit-packed ramp, and catch the sight of unique weather events and data visualizations projected onto free-floating weather balloons. Talking about the weather offers a time-honored way for people to engage with each other at the intersection of STEMM, community values, and trust.
We're in this Together
This zone celebrates the people in healthcare, medicine, biotech whose contributions to STEMM make our lives better. This free-admission zone will illuminate the science and technology that defines our region and keeps us globally competitive. We’re In This Together is an ideal space for community health and wellness messaging and workshops.
Visitors will learn about repair, restoration, and reuse in living cells, and in digital or mechanical devices. The focus on adaptive sports will signal that no matter what our strengths, there are always ways to participate.
The Growing Scientists Lab
The Growing Scientists Lab at FMSM is a launchpad for all visitors to embark on a lifelong journey of scientific exploration. Through hands-on experiences with real tools, real data, and real STEMM professionals, the lab will equip aspiring scientists with the skills and confidence they need to ignite their future careers.
Science + Fiction
Science + Fiction is about the creativity embedded in STEMM and the innovations that spring from them. Here, visitors will unpack fact and fiction and feel the complex relationships between them.
This zone provides layers of low-barrier STEMM entry points, even for those who feel “a museum is not the place for me.” From pop-culture to robots, visitors can test the limits of artificial intelligence or program a techno dinosaur. Science + Fiction’s permanent ag tech subzone nourishes understandings of soil, seeds, and sun as it feeds our imaginations.
