The Future Location of the Fargo-Moorhead Science Museum

Thanks to a generous land donation from Brandt Holdings, the Fargo-Moorhead Science Museum will join Urban Plains, a mixed-use urban neighborhood on the prairie. This up-and-coming development will offer a balance of residential and retail spaces, entertainment, outdoor recreation, restaurants, and more. The future museum will be located at the intersection of Seter Pkwy and 31st Avenue South in Fargo. The 60,000 sq. ft. museum plan includes 23,000 sq. ft. of indoor exhibition space and 10,000 sq. ft. of outdoor spaces.

~23,000 sq ft. exhibit space

6 permanent exhibit zones, traveling and sponsored exhibitis, and events spaces.

6 Main Experience Zones

Hands-on, interactive experiences for all ages, designed to be locally focused and globally relevant.

Breakthrough

Breakthrough, the largest FMSM zone, contains a collection of unexpected environments designed for exploration, creation, learning, and sharing. During each visit, people uncover new layers of experience as they find fresh ways to have fun and new ways to see the world.

Breakthrough features:

• Intense engagement and casual hangout
• Mystery, search, and discovery
• Individual and group participatory opportunities
• Full-body activity

Each visit offers the opportunity to experience Breakthrough from a different perspective–someone quite different than yourself, an animal, a plant, a particle of clay. The journeys might be linked to spaces and places outside the walls of FMSM.

Into the Storm

Into the Storm sweeps visitors into tales of wind, hail, and snow. They hurtle through a multistory slide, ascend a winding exhibit-packed ramp, and catch sight of unique weather events and data visualizations projected onto free-floating weather balloons. Talking about the weather offers a time-honored way for people to engage with each other at the intersection of STEM, community values, and trust.
